The “Meet the Neighbors+” competition section includes first or second films from the 36 countries of South-Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. At the same time, in 2023, the section’s Golden Alexander was renamed into “Golden Alexander - Michel Demopoulos”, honoring the memory of the former Festival director (1991-2005) who led the institution to gain an international scope.
The presentation of the projects in the Crossroads Co-Production Forum of the 65th TIFF Agora took place on Monday, November 4th, at Frida Liappa theatre. At this year's 20th anniversary edition of the Crossroads Co-Production Forum, 15 promising film projects from 17 countries of Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean were selected.
Matt Dillon was bestowed with the Festival’s honorary Golden Alexander award on Monday November 4th, at Olympion, prior to the screening of the film City of Ghosts (2002). Amidst a deafening ovation from the crowd, the multifarious and beloved actor received the Golden Alexander Award from legendary Greek actress and member of the TIFF’s Board of Directors, Themis Bazaka.
The Agora Series section of the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival called it a wrap on Sunday November 3rd with the masterclass “Real Imagination: Storytelling In the Age of AI”, delivered by the creative consultant for film and television productions, Tatjana Samopjan.
Within the context of the Agora Talks of the 65th Thessaloniki Film Festival, the discussion titled “Meet the Film Commissions: By your side before and after the production, from the North to the South of Europe” was held on Monday November 4th at MOMus-Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, in collaboration with the Region of Central Macedonia (Film Office-Central Macedonia, Greece), the Hellenic Film Commission and the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN). The panelists were: Martina Lovascio (Apulia Film Commission, Film Fund Manager, Italy), Adrian A. Mitchell (Head of Oslo Film Commission and EUFCN Co-President, Norway), Lina Milonaki (Head of Film Office – Central Macedonia, Greece) and Neoklis Mantas (Director of the Hellenic Film Commission - Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center - Creative Greece, Greece).
The discussion “Bridge to the North: Co-production Opportunities with Sweden” was held on Monday November 4th at MOMus-Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, within the framework of the Agora Talks of the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The panel of speakers was composed of: Kristina Börjeson, Head of Production -Film i Väst, Theo Tsappos, Festival Manager Feature Film- International Department - Swedish Film Institute, Anna-Maria Kantarius, producer - Garagefilm, and Zoe Kandyla, Head of Development & Production - Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Centre.
