On Thursday March 6th, at 7.15pm, the film About a Hero by Piotr Winiewicz will signal the official opening of the 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival. The Festival will call it a wrap on Sunday March 16th, with Shoshannah Stern’s Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore that unravels the story of Marlee Matlin, the first ever deaf recipient of an Academy Award for acting.
The Immersive competition section of the 27th TiDF lines up 8 films echoing powerful political, social and historical vibes, while touching upon a series of issues related to the boundaries of human consciousness. The Golden Alexander Immersive will be bestowed to the section’s best film, accompanied by a 2,000-euro cash prize.
The 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival's spots were directed by choreographer Andi Xhuma, exploring the affinities between cinema and the performative arts. Iconic landmarks of Thessaloniki, as well as a series of beloved hubs, buildings and spots that beat to the Festival’s pulse, take center stage at the 27th TiDF’s spots.
AGORA, the most active and vibrant documentary Industry Event of Southeastern Europe is returning with new synergies and awards, having consolidated its status as a meeting point and contact hub between documentary professionals from all over the world, offering support to the documentary genre throughout the different stages of production. The Agora of the 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival will be held from March 7 to March 15, 2025.
Τhe 27th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival announces the films taking part in the three competition sections of this year’s festival edition: the International Competition, the Newcomers competition section and the >>Film Forward competition section. The competing documentaries are holding their world, international, or European premiere in the Festival. The International Competition Golden Alexander winner will automatically be eligible to submit for Academy Awards® consideration in the Documentary Feature category.
